The study is to codification of developmental strategy for rural and indigenous sports in Golestan province. The method of the research was analytical- descriptive, in terms of results was an applied and case study. The population of this study included university professors, Ph.D. in physical education, sport and youth leaders and the rural sports bodies which include 94 people. Due to the limitations of society, sampling was carried out on a full count. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to gather the required information. The validity of questionnaire was approved by 10 professors of Ph.D. degree in sport management. The reliability of questionnaire using the method of Cronbach's alpha obtained 82.0. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics (tables, charts, etc.) and inferential statistics (Friedman test) were used.
Eventually 12 strengths, 12 weaknesses, 12 opportunities and 10 threats were identified. The results showed that the most important strength was winning medals in some disciplines in the national and international levels. The important weakness was inadequate attention to the sport of rural and tribes. The most important opportunity was presence of different tribes and cultures in rural areas and the most important threat was influence of the western culture adored by the youth. According to the analysis, the strategic position of rural sports is in the WT (defensive) region. According to this, the rural sports development strategies include of 3 SO strategies, 2 ST strategies, 2 WO strategies and 4 WT strategies.
