Elderly is a critical period of life and it is very important to pay attention to the quality of life of the elderly, especially in critical situations of the outbreak of coronavirus. The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of home exercise during coronavirus outbreak on the quality of life of the elderly. The study is a descriptive research including a sample population of 168 elderly over 60 years old in North Khorasan province in Iran. Convenience sampling was performed. To obtain the required data, a Short Form-36 (SF-36) questionnaire was used. For statistical analysis, Kolmogorov- Smirnov (K-S) test and Mann–Whitney U test were used. All the statistical operations were done using SPSS Statistics 22 in significance level of P≤0.05. The results of study indicate the active elderly enjoyed a higher quality of life than the non-active ones considering indicators such as physical and emotional problems, physical performance limitations, and public health and pain. However, in terms of social function indicator, no significant difference was noted between them. Given the importance of people being active during the coronavirus outbreak, exercise and regular physical activity can have a significant impact on improving the quality of life of the elderly, and therefore, it is recommended that families with the elderly and nursing homes to encourage the elderly should engage in physical activity.
