The purpose of this study was to present a model of institutionalizing the meritocracy of managers of Iranian sports organizations. The method of this research was qualitative research with grounded theory approach. After 18 in-depth and semi-structured interviews, the coding process was performed. Purposeful and snowball sampling continued until theoretical saturation. After completing the findings, the model was designed based on the systematic approach of Strauss and Corbin model (1994). The data analysis results were obtained using Maxqda qualitative analysis software in three stages of open, axial and selective coding. The results showed that the organizational capabilities of Iranian sports, the athlete himself, the information system, the level of support for the athlete, the environment as causal conditions; the nature of championship sports, the structure of Iranian sports, the environment of activity and growth of the athlete as contextual factors; athlete abilities and challenges of championship sports as intervening factors; organizational and national strategies play an important role as effective strategies and the consequences of applying strategies in both positive and negative forms. Managers and senior officials are recommended to use the signs, concepts and categories identified in this research to select the right people in hiring and employing the required human resources.
