The research is to study the role of tourism in the development of peaceful relations based on the interpretive structural model (ISM). The present study is applied research that was conducted in the field. The method of the study was mixed in terms of data collection method, which was implemented qualitatively and quantitatively. The statistical population in the qualitative sector included elites and experts in the field of tourism-sports. The sampling method in the qualitative part was purposeful. The statistical population in the quotative part was  in addition to these people, some managers and experts of organizations in charge of tourism and sport and people aware of sports tourism including the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, the Ministry of Sports and Youth and some university professors in the field of tourism. The research tools included semi-structured interviews and a researcher-made questionnaire. Interpretive structural modeling and structural equations were used to analyze the data. The whole process of data analysis was performed in SPSS and PLS software.
The results of the qualitative section showed that 28 factors identified were classified into 6 factors including altruistic culture, adequate security and safety, managerial procedures, human aspects, international contexts and joint activities. Also the adequate security and safety as an underlying factor in the model of research leads to the formation of other factors. The diversity of identified factors indicated that there were major weaknesses in this area at present that had overshadowed the path to improving the role of sports tourism in developing peaceful relations.
