Abstract

The present research was conducted with the aim of knowing how sports affect the country's political authority. The research method in this research is quantitative-qualitative, which uses grounded theory with open, central, and selective coding in the qualitative part. The statistical population in the first group is 20 people of Iran's delegation to the 2020 Japan Games, 10people were selected from experts in the field of sports. The sample size in this research continued until theoretical saturation and the sampling method was purposeful. The second group to collect the results of the analysis included 180 athletes from the expedition group, who were analyzed using an online questionnaire tool made by the researcher due to the lack of access to some players and unwillingness to respond based on the available sample. The software used was spss version 22 and the statistic used was regression. In the first step of the open coding stage,78 categories were identified and in the axial coding, 23categories were identified. In the last stage of the selective coding,6 categories were determined. The results indicate that Olympic sports influence the country's political authority through the components of sports influence, sports diplomacy, legitimacy, intelligent power, legal authority, and sports dominance; among these obtained components, in the order of the components of legal authority, sports influence has played the most important role.
