Abstract
. This research aims to investigate the relationship between the amount and type of Instagram use and the cognitive biases of adolescents aged 15 to 19 in Tehran. The present research is quantitative, employing a survey method. The statistical population includes all adolescents aged 15 to 19 in the city of Tehran, whose number is 686,231 based on the latest census. A sample size of 385 people was selected using Cochran's formula with a multi-stage probability sampling method. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire, the validity of which was confirmed through face validity, and its reliability was confirmed with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient higher than 0.7. The findings indicated that adolescents Tehran use Instagram the most, with 178 minutes and more than 5 times a day, and the most common type of use is entertainment and recreation. The most common cognitive bias is intrapersonal. There is also a significant correlation between Instagram use and intrapersonal and individual-based cognitive biases, but there is no such correlation at the interpersonal level. Among the types of Instagram use, entertainment use and following the lifestyles of others have the highest correlation with cognitive biases, while educational use showed the least correlation. The results also indicate that as Instagram usage increased, so did the cognitive biases of the illusion of truth, historical forgery, catastrophizing, anchoring, confirmation bias, and the halo effect. Logistic regression analysis showed that both the "amount" and "type of use" variables were able to predict the level of cognitive bias
